People use normal rear axles and add rear steer. If you had a front axle, when it drooped on the diff side, theres no possible way it could not pull its slip yoke apart every time

what about land rover rear axles? they're offset quite a bit

Dunno about those, but im sure they dont have anywhere near a frot axle offset. Both my 60s, the pumpkin is about 5 inches from the knuckle. But some have a tcase with a rear output offset like the front.

It'd have to be. But I'm sure something is possible! I've never looked into rear steer setups.

Too achieve this the best way IMHO is to get a

D60/14BFF REAR axle
D60 front axle with king pins

measure the distance from WMS to inner part of the inner-C flange where the axle tube slides in. chop the D60/14Bff axle tubes down to have equal inner shaft lengths on both sides and the proper total width taking into consideration of the knuckles/hubs ect. then weld on the inner C's with proper caster set into them maximizing pinion angle to point at the t/case.

thsi will give you a D60(or d60/14bff hybrid) rear axle with rear steer and Same shafts left and right making it so you will only need to carry one rear spare shaft set. I would recommend the 14BFF for the tube diameter match to a front D60 IIRC making it so you wont have to have the tubes machined down to fit the knuckles (could be wrong on that part) giving you a beef rear steer axle.... but this also costs a lot of money as you would need to buy/use/make a jig to set this all up ans have the shafts stay straight and not cause a bent/binding setup.

but this would need custom shafts, machine work, lots of math, and pricey U-joints, plus a shave kit, re-gear, lockers ect... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$4

AFTER all that B.S. and headache... is it really worth it? is it really worth it under a Cherokee? I wouldn't bother man. lots of $$ and work when a 200$ 14bff could just do the trick

Bingo! land cruisers and land rovers (the ones I have seen) have an offset T.case and BOTH drivlines are on the same side of the T/case giving the offset. input is offset and outputs are inline.

a multi double cardan joint driveline could work, but would not be ideal or a very good long term setup.

I took my evo to the church parking lot for some fun, then drove up to tibble fork and hung out. That's all.

I realize your now talking about GM stuff but interesting info... (GM may have an offset T/case as well, But I don't know gm very well)

If you wanted I was reading to put a toyota T/case on a JEEP AW4 all you have to do is change the tail housing on the trany(toyota cases are 21 or 23 spline too!) and it "SHOULD" bolt up. (making Toyota duals fit a cherokee) and Making running the offset T/case pretty simple. However I can't remember if they where passenger or drivers drop... maybe had both options lol.

BUT only the landcruiser T/case is offset. All the others are setup just like the cherokee t/case.

All info based off a build thread I read last week and it wasn't finished but was bolted together... so It looked like it worked, but hadn't been used yet

Can't find it... was on pirate4x4. I bet if you search Toyota t/case in jeep you will come across it somehow. A Buddie at my work showed it to me and said "here you go, we should put duals in your pos" lol, they where talking about swapping the jeep housing onto a toyota aw4 trans to make an atlas bolt up to... so I "believe they are fully interchangeable... but only read it once and haven;t looked to far into it.

toyota duals on jeep trans auto/manual

i guess you need to tail housing and output shaft from a toy trans.

But overall, probably not worth the effort unless your trying to run a front axle in the rear, which i still don't think is worth it lol. just adding interesting info for endless possibilities for what your trying to do
