Count the spline count but it should be the same but..... I know they had short shaft and long shafts so that might make a difference.

Aah there we go. I knew there was a reason. I put a 98 aw4 in my 93 and had to keep the 97+ np231.

Default NP231

I just took a SYE off of a 1990 NP231 and put it on a 1998 NP231 the input into the trans is a different depth/length. This is good for an older XJ if you want to put a SYE on it. Or if you have a cracked case. If anyone wants it it their's. If not I'm going to strip it down to separate the metals for recycling.

I'm getting ready to order a SYE and I'm not sure what DS I can use. I have close to a 3in lift on my xj. I'm thinking about going with a stock xj front DS to use with my SYE. Do you guys think this will work with my lift?

Yes it will work. There are some configurations that work better than others. The best one is supposed to be on an auto with a chrysler 8.25 or dana 44 and a front drive shaft out of xj with an auto. Plus people use them as back ups all the time.

Hey what's up guys, just got my first jeep, I've always been a Toyota guy but wanted to try something different. I picked up a 92 Cherokee sport with a gm 305 in it. My plan is to make it into an expedition rig, I've always had rock crawlers but want something I can drive down the road and go exploring in..
