i guess i meant to say practical, yet capable.. still, clear as mud.

31"/32" is something you can still let someone borrow and it will drive stockish.

35s is not practical IMO. But again, that is speaking for myself.

I think a locked rig on 31s w/armor will take you a bunch of places here. Won't be able to do the harder lines, but will get the job done and still drive close to stock.

31's, armor,And lockers will do many trails ,and you can always do something different if it does not work out ,And I can see 35's not being practical since they cost more to buy and inrease operating cost on a DD ,so while streetable it is not practical .

I DD my 99 its on 31's locked (still needs armor) I have only like a 3.5" lift and So far I have never gotten stuck or had to winch out. It drives near stock; except for the difference in speed and the locker noises.

yeah, 3" is the magic number for an xj it seems.. more than that, and you kinda start opening a can of worms. just a lot more money to invest to make it drive right. 33s are borderline practical, depending on the tire, but at that point you prob should invest in your steering and re-gear is really a necessity...

again, that's just me.. i know 35s can be a dd, but takes some dedication.
