Can anyone ballpark a price on front and rear gears? Like to be on the road, installed, etc etc. DIY I guess? I dunno if I could afford to pay a shop. Maybe get someone local to lend a hand?

Well it's not like changing a radiator. There is a lot of Skill, practice, etc involved. More power to ya if you want to teach yourself but it's not simple.

I'm just wanting to understand what's daunting about it? I know attention to detail is crucial, but I guess I don't get what part would be complicated...

Just google it. There's a reason none of us do our own gears and why the labor on it is so much. Anybody here can learn, and do it themselves but we find with this, it's easier to pay. I have a book on gearing from a school I went to, if you really wanna learn , feel free to borrow it.
