generally vehicles older than 1972 will not have a cat at all, most at that time wouldn't have been equipt with them yet as it wasn't really mandatory until after 1975. it is not required if the vehicle was not originally manufactured with it.

Do you think that it would be fine to pass emissions?

As far as a cat Im going to go with a Magnaflow High flow Cat 91036.

Thoughts or input?
as i stated, you DO NOT need a muffler to pass emissions. you need a cat, and a tail pipe exiting the rear of the vehicle. you muffler only muffles sound and does absolutly nothing for emissions.(i would still put one on cuz i hate noisy jeeps) not trying to correct you, just a lot of people have this false impression that the muffler does more than its name for some reason.

that manaflow cat should be good.

i assume you are driving a 96 or newer xj if you are getting a cat with an o2 sensor bung?

While you are right a muffler doesn't do anything for emissions, some states inspect to make sure the exhaust system is complete and functioning. When Ohio had echeck it was a pretty lazy operation so they didn't do the check.... just the code check or dyno then the gas cap check.

I see what your saying. Makes sense really. Are you here in Colorado by chance? Im thinking regardless the drone or my exhaust is getting a tad irritating during longer highway drives!! I was thinking that for inspection purposes I would probably need one but I see what yor saying. Yes My XJ is a 2000. I honestly thought that mufflers did do more than muffle tha sound and helped with emissions.

Then I should run a straight three inch tube and only cat then. I don't like my muffler

Most people think they do. there is just baffles and/or packing in them just to redirect the sound which in turn muffles it. They put them at different angles and orientation to get different sounds out of them.

And yes, I'm here in good ole colorado.

Yes in other states they have different safety and emissions requirments, and some have none at all.

This thread is about Colorado emissions, hence the title.

I realize that. My point was to check the law. Ohio was suppose to check the equipment but they didn't.

Dont mean to threadjack or anything but does anyone happen to know the rules in colorado as far as moving from a county that doesnt require emmissions to one that does require it? At this point the vehicle would still be registered in the county that doesnt require testing

If you work in a county that requires testing then you can be ticketed for not having an inspection. Denver city and county is a good example.

Shoot, when I bought mine in Loveland (no emissions) and I live in Aurora (with emissions), when I registered I had to pay a higher fee I think, plus get my emissions tested. Of which, I failed miserably the first couple times around.
