hello everyone! im new to the site and im on here looking for some friends thatll take me wheelin one day. the main reason im here tonight is to ask for some help in my OFA. the torx bolt thats on there was already slightly stripped which cannot hold the torque needed to loosen it. ive looked high and low for answers on the web and found that i can altogether get rid of the OFA, and would like to go that route with a smaller oil filter. well, today i tried again to get the OFA out. needless to say ive spent hours trying to loosen and even break that torx head off to remove the OFA. no luck. now im in a bind and my jeep is still bleedin to death. this is my DD and that alone prevents me from destroying the thing completely in fear that if i need to get more parts, that ill be stranded. so, is there anybody here that is gracious enough to help me perform this frustrating task? im willing to pay for your services, i just dont wanna go to the rip off dealership and dont wanna take it to any other cheaper shop bc i feel that this is a unique problem....

Its needing a clutch kit, and some exhaust work, but its just another project. Why not right?

uhhh. How bad is it stripped. I may have some thing that will work. I like to notch the head of the bolt with a cutoff disc, so you can at least get a flat-head screw driver on there and torque it off. A friend of mine has a flathead bit, mounted on a socket, that was on a halfinch rachet and that backed out my broken leaf to frame bolts out.

My dad once welded a socket onto a stubborn bolt. Have a lil mexican tire shop weld ur torxbit to the bolt head. Take it home and give it a turn.

Im James by the way

What is an OFA?

Stripped bolts are a pain. I'd either weld a nut to it or get a craftsman easy out kit.

sean, james, photjared, thanks for the replies. as far as notching it for a screwdriver bit, im pretty sure that the T60 torx bit with "factory locktite" will win that battle. and the location of that darn torx head is so hard to get any leverage on it. if anybody has had to do this task with a partly stripped torx bolt, im sure you can see that im pretty much screwed. so i had tried to even break it off completely but cant get enough swing on the bfh to even do that bc its such in a tight spot... what do you think about putting a pnematic hammer and chisel? im skeptical about that bc that torx bolt goes right into the block... idk, anymore advise and help would be appreciated. i dont have a welder either to even attempt welding anything to conjure up a contraption that may work. im willinig to pay someone that has done this job to help me complete it.

project hippo, before i even joined the forum, ive been doing a lot of reading here and came across your project. man, i gotta say that youve done a lot of nice things to your jeep and just wanna give you props. i hope to meet you sometime so i could check it out personally... thanks again everyone! sean

if it has locktite on it then you need heat to get it off. get a propane touch up there an heat that sucker up and then turn it. if you need to notch the head use a sazall to cut a groove in it since i doubt you will fit a grinder up there
