In an ideal world you'll want to install the lift then cycle the suspension and measure for shocks. Not everyone can do that though. I'd go with the longer shocks. You can always bump stop. The longer shocks would allow for more droop.
Oh and personally if you're ordering the 4.5" kit. Go with 3.5" springs; shackle relocation boxes and a longer shackle. That should put you right at 4.5" plus give the added articulation

What's the simplest, homemade way to do this? I've seen lots of pictures of people flexing out their rigs with forklifts, but I'm not able to do that. Knowing that, I suppose I can get to installing the lift and then take measurements for the shocks.
Once you get your lift installed I think a lot of people usually find a berm or ditch to flex out on. Its possible to do without your springs in if you are really careful and have enough jacks/jackstands.

I actually already have the 4.5" Super-Flex lift. Just need shocks.

You can drive without shocks. Very carefully, but you can.
Its a windy one out there. I was blowing around the freeway.

Yeah, that didn't occur to me until now.
haha It makes sense though since the shocks are just for dampening. Sweet. Thanks for the input, guys. Looks like I can start on the lift sooner. My goal is to be done this month. In addition to the lift, I need to do some maintenance work. I'm doing the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, rear main seal, transmission pan gasket and filter, transmission mount, and motor mounts. 4 leaks. So much to do, so little time. I'm planning on tackling the valve cover gasket tonight and updating my build thread. Shouldn't be too difficult.
