I just had a similar problem. I was getting close to overheating on my '96 XJ, and the heater would not put out anything -- I am in Ely, Nevada, which it has been down around 15 degrees the past couple nights; not to mention, we also got close to a foot of snow 3 days ago! Anyway, I replaced what looked like a good cap and now I am not overheating, plus, my heater is working better. I think that I have a bad HCV, which I have everything to bypass it, so that will be fixed tomorrow.
I have going: me 94 xj, friend 72 scout, father in law cj-7, their two friends rubicon and tacoma. We will be camping out there at cold creek if anyone else has camping in mind

I wanted to come down there and meet you guys, but my wife vetoed that
. Maybe next time. I have to replace my rear springs anyway: The guy I bought it from put blocks in the rear to give it 3" of lift, which makes it wheel-hop very bad; and the springs have reversed arched now, too. The only thing he did that I don't like.
He did, however, rebuild both diffs (and added a LSD to the rear); rebuilt the T-case; and all new U-joints. Pretty much everything that you can imagine he replaced or rebuilt! He forgot a few things here and there, but, for the most part, it is perfect. Plus, it only has 110,XXX on it to begin with! He told me that everything was perfect to begin with, but wanted to make sure. He is a stanch Mormon, so I trust everything he said.
Oh well, maybe I can get down to the southern part of the state one of these days. I have many areas to wheel around here, but pretty soon the snow will be 3-4' deep. Not too bad when it is powder, but when the temps get down to -15 it turns to concrete!
