LAS VEGAS XJ GROUP-----> 1st ROLL CALL.
Ya my '98 is touchy... It wouldn't get past like 5-10 on the gauge when I first got it. I used some engine flush I had and changed the oil to 15-40 with a chrysler filter and now most of the time the gauge is normal after a few seconds-min of running. I have a new sensor to put in still to see if its better, but I also suspect the oil pump.
For you stitch next time you change the oil, throw a qt of trans fluid into engine oil and let it run for 10-15 mins ( I've heard driving is perfectly ok, but I don't do that)
BEFORE YOU'RE LIKE WTF IM NOT DOING THAT THAT SOUNDS CRAZY...I said the same thing!!! Transmission fluid has A LOT of cleaning agents/detergents in the fluid that helps clean up the inside of the engine, without damaging anything. If you were to buy an "engine flush" chemical, it's be way more expensive than a qt of trans fluid and BASICALLY the same thing.

Alright I'll give that a try. If it's the oil pump which i am suspecting it is after reading other threads of those who have the same symptoms, is this something that needs to be immediately replaced? Like if I don't change the pump my engine will blow or something. I just changed my oil to check if it was the type of oil the po had used before that could be causing my issues and it would suck if I had to change it again in order to drop the pan. It runs fine no grinds or nothing. Also is it hard to swap out an oil pump on these Cherokees?

I run just a tad higher then norm due to my lack of filter adapter.
I don't have an ofa either and I run low...I guess it's time to get me a mechanical oil gauge to check for sure. If it is my pump I guess it forces me to get my lazy *** and change the pan gasket and rms...:/

I expected more pressure. The canister filter is smaller. There is not hard 90 elbow anymore. I expected to run just a tiny bit higher oil pressure. My norm is 60 to pushing hard 80. I now run 65-70 to pushing hard 85-90. Running 10w-40 Rotella T6.

But this is the step by step I'd go with
I just recently heard of this flashing of the PCM/ECU.... Can you do this just to do it if you wana see if it will help your jeep out cuz I don't think this has ever been done to my xj
Or is there no point Expectially if you jeep has high mileage
And who sells these bigger tbs?
