i need a np 242 transfer case with low(er) miles

 

what year I have some in good shape and no chain slack also have np 231's

 

its for a 1996. i just put another trans in it that had a np242 attached but the housing on it was all broken up so i put my np231 on there but the shaft coming from the trans is too small and im pretty sure is just spinning in there and not catching. so i need to put a np242 in again im guessing? unless theres a spacer of some sort haha

 

There are two different spline counts ones a 21 spline and the other is a 23 spline 231 or 242 transcase will fit along as the spline count is the same.what does the oringinal tag say 242 amc or a 242 j ?
