Default Whining noise!

So since I got the xj a little over a year ago there has been this god aweful whining noise coming from the front passenger wheel area. I thought it was the hub so Alex came out and helped me swap it out. Still did not get rid of it. When I accelerate the whining noise gets faster and when I slow down Ithe whining noise slows down as well. If anyone has any ideas let me know. It is greatly appreciated.

It might be in your differential! If the gears are not setup properly that will cause the noise your describing.....

Not having the proper backlash due to improper shimming of carrier

Need more info, Jack it up and spin that wheel. If the whining is happening from there you should be able to hear it.

Possibly a rock stuck in the rotor or a bent brake dust cover?

Its possible your gears are bad as well, i have heard of them whining when going out. Possible bad carrier or pinion bearing as well. You basically need to jack it up and start moving parts and source the squeek.

if you still have the stock spider gears up front, then they might be the culprit and are easy to change. but like others said, need more info, can you put the jeep on jack stands and get a sound clip for it? or have someone sit in the passenger seat and record it for you

Thanks for all the input guys. I will try to get a video of it. Everything on the front end is stock. I do know that the right axle shaft is a cv joint and I know for a 2000 they did not come with cv joints. So whoever replaced that axle shaft just threw in the axle shaft with the cv joint for a quick fix. Wonder if that's the problem?

i hear it occilating. bet its gonna be a brake issue of some kind. though I would also look at that axle. check your backing plate and make sure your antirattle springs are not broken in the caliper.. hell check caliper bolts too.

Appreciate it guys. I will look at all of that on my day off. Hopefully it's only a brake issue.

does the sound change or go away when you
1. apply brakes
2. turn left or right
