another local.. yay!!!

lol

for me, a decent stereo.. i spend a lot of time in my jeep, and some good tunes always puts me in a good mood.

and of course, some solid recovery points.. my first run to tahuya with these guys showed me that a jeep can get thru quite a lot even in stock form.

Since recovery points have already been covered, skid plates (especially crossmember area) and GOOD Rocksliders. Also an elevated air intake (or snorkal) and waterproofing of the engine electronics. These few things will go far in keeping your XJ alive while 4wheeling in Washington state. Lockers, gears, flexy lift, good mud tires, body armor and a winch are all givens in my opinion when building a rig for offroading.

As others have said, recovery above anything else. You could have the biggest baddest rig on the trail, but if you get stuck your done for without proper recovery points.

here's another important one.. in fact, I'd say the most important really

common sense, and a firm grasp of the limitations of both you and your jeep.

Those limitations didn't stop you our first trip to tahuya :-) j/k

But he's exactly right. If you don't think you can make something, maybe it's best you don't try, unless you have someone to pull you out, which goes right back to the first one. Recovery.

yup.. because I had a bunch of good people in the group that I knew would help out I definitely wouldn't have tried a lot of those spots on my own

If your planning on keeping it long term I would say unibody stiffeners/ steering brace. Few hundred bucks, wiht no visual improvement but even with a short lift/ small tires the unibody has a lot of movement. I've seen lots of rigs have problems in a few spots. Handles better and even under daily use it makes a huge difference. Also can be added with recovery points. I have wished I did it sooner in a few of my jeeps

This. You have not idea how many times I scrape on my skids being so low. I always have dirt scooped up on my t-case and gas tank skids after I go wheeling. Last time we went I scraped every single skid on a big a$$ rock, would have been very expensive if I didn't have them, I recon, then I went and dinged up my front one instead of bending up my steering linkage.

Also, rock sliders and front recovery are my next two planned mods.

This might be a lil off topic, but is there a group you guys are in for WA jeeps? I couldn't find one and don't know how to make a new group. Im new to this sight and really wanted to get to know some people that would want to go wheelin sometime here local in Western WA. I don't know many places and im still learning a lot about these rigs but I absolutely love them. Im trying to get my brother to convert from his Toyota pickup he has. He thinks Cherokees are garbage, but I feel like a couple good mudding trips with a bunch of Cherokees would make him change his mind. Sorry if its off topic but I figured this is a good place to ask since all of you are from Washington...

Yeah, a little off topic but, I'm always happy to see new members to the CF in the PNW region. Welcome. AND being in Lake Tapps one of the best wheeling spots in Western Washington is right in your backyard. Evans creek ORV. Have you heard of it? You are also only about an hour away from Elbe Hills ORV....and a couple of hours from Tahuya State Forest ORV and Walker Valley ORV.
