It musta been a rusty 308...... that had to be a v8 explorer to have 3.08 gears. Just look for a 4x4 6cyl explorer at the junk yard. It should have 4.10 gears, if ur gonna swap, mys well go 4.10 at least. What size tires you gonna be running? I have 33's and like the 4.10's with the 4.0, but some guys go 4.56.

Brandon, if three and a half turns of the yoke got you one full tire rotation, that means that axle has 3.55 gears PERIOD. Now, three and three quarters turns means you have 3.73. It is important that you know for sure what the gear ratio is as they must match front to rear. so, if you need to do the rotation check again to be sure, do it.
Now, as far as your Jeeps front axle goes. if you have the 4.0 inline six cylinder you either have 3.55 gears if your jeep is a factory auto tranny model or you have 3.07 gears if your Jeep is a factory 5-speed model again PERIOD. the only way your gears would be anything else is if you have the 2.5 four cylinder motor, in which case you would have 4.10 gears. You can do the rotation check on your Jeeps front axle to be sure about that, too.

Even though somebody told you that D30 out of a Grand has 3.73 gears I'd still do the rotation check just so I knew for my own peace of mind that my gears matched front to rear.

Yep, and his Jeep is a 92. My Jeep is a 91 and came with an auto tranny and I originally had 3.55's. Brandon, the guy who started this thread, has a 96. The specs I wrote apply to the Chrysler type XJs. 1991-2001. Some older Renix type XJs could be had with 3.73's if that had certain trailering or offroad packages.
