while you are weldin, gridin, and paintin, then you you box up that upper control arm mount on the passenger side, i have seen them twist before, not common but it happens. just throw a 1/8" plate in between the two side walls on the back side.

Thanks for the heads-up, David. I was looking at that guy the other night and formulating a plan in my mind. Just gotta make a template and cut the steel to fit.

Another thing to consider is gettting rid of those stock rubber upper control arm bushings. Mike kept wearing out resulting in axle wrap. After going through 2 sets and the pain in the *** involved with replacing them I switched em out with these Currie joints. No more axle wrap, easily rebuildable if they ever do wear out, and gives you a much stronger solid passenger side upper mount.

Thanks for the info. Bill. This is really turning one of the greatest D30 beef up threads I've ever seen. I can't afford to do all of the upgrades all of you guys have recommended but, please please please keep posting them. This thread will be one massive D30 beef up parts link if nothing else.

I know how you feel. I never planned on building a super 30, but it is slowly turning into one. I've done the LCA mounts, new UCA currie joints, BPEs, Riddler diff cover, currie steering. Now I've got some 4.10 gears I need to throw in and WJ knuckles and calipers I want to put on it. Then I plan to truss it up and give it hell.

I have a little bit of fine grinding to set the new Lower Control Arm mounts where I want them to be welded. I've already set up Wednesday to take my axle over to a local guy here in Oak Harbor to get an estimate on welding it up for me. if his estimate is dirt cheap...like it usually is...I will have him go ahead and do it. I will post a couple of pics once I have the final LCA mounting figured out. I will post more pics once the welding is done, then again after finish grinding and a few after painting is done before assembly.

I dropped my axle housing off at my Local welding guy. Here is what is happening to it while it is in his hands:

1.) Welding on my HD 1/4" thick LCA mounts
2.) Welding on my over the axle 1/4" thickTrussing pieces
3.) Welding on my 1/4" thick under the "C" gussets
4.) Boxing and solid welding in the right side UCA mount
5.) All pieces will be spot welded, then solid welded inside and outside.
6.) OEM spring buckets, shock mounts and all other mounts welded inside and outside.
7.) Almost forgot. he will start by welding the axle tubes to the differential housing.

Now, get this. He is doing it all for $50 bones. This guy is good, too. he has been welding for over 30 years. He just has a small privately owned business. Any of you guys who live in Oak Harbor/Whidbey island, Burlington or even farther outlying areas. If you need some welding done to your Jeep. This guy is an awesome welder and his prices are cheap.

Head out Crescent Harbor to the Navy Capehart housing. He is on the right just across the road from the housing. Its "Don's Welding". His number is 679-1450.

One of these days I will get my left and right straightened out. Make that, he is on the left across the road from the Capehart Navy Housing.

I'm glad you are liking the thread. As I said before, even if a guy has a better or different idea for building his own personal "Super 30", the guys from the forum have put a wealth of knowledge, tips and links to good parts on this thread. I hope it helps out all who read it.

I went over to Don's Welding shop to have a look at my axle and to answer a few detail questions he had about how I wanted my axle done. I also ordered my new Ball Joints for the new axle. I went with XRF Ball Joints. Everything I have read about these things says they are practically indestructible...even better than Moog. They come with XRF's "Million Mile Warranty" so I'd say I'm covered for life.
