Default Penetrating oils

Here is some good info I though might come in handy for everyone ....
Machinist's Workshop MagT recently published someinformation on various penetrating oils that I found very interesting. The magazine reports they tested penetrates for break out torque on rusted nuts.

They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrates with the control beingthe torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted"environment.

*Penetrating oils ........... Average torque load to loosen*

No Oil used ................... 516 pounds
WD-40 ..................... ... 238 pounds
PB Blaster .................... 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ...............127 pounds
Kano Kroil .................... 106 pounds
ATF*-Acetone mix............53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix is a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note this "home brew" released bolts better than any commercial product in this one particular test.
For about 20% of the price, note that "Liquid Wrench" is almost asgood as "Kroil" …. But not as good as the ATF/Acetone.

*ATF=Automatic Transmission Fluid

I'd like to see em test mopar penetrating oil. I was hanging out in the local jeep dealer garage and seen some being used. You can literally watch it eat rust off. The ATF mix sounds legit though

I might have to get some liquid wrench then. I usually use PB Blaster. Never heard of Kano.

PB blaster works great if you dont mind waiting. I use it mainly to break free stuff, but spray some on the night before and works every time.

That is interesting I thought that after all the good things I have heard about PB Blaster that it would do much better (specially compared to WD40). Have yall ever tried this product, it is XXX Penetrant by Kleen-flo. I used it once (although applied 3 or 4 times) on my exaust manifold bolts and had no problems removing them. This is after two mechanics said they wouldnt even want to attempt removing the bolts as they looked too rusted.
