Default OBA

Thinking about buying this for OBA, what do you guys think? How fast do you think it will air up 35x13.5x15 tires?

I hate having to rely on others for my air needs so i need to do something. I do have an a/c but i think it will cost close to the same to convert it to oba, even though i think it would be better.

That's a sweet air compressor, and for the money it's a deal.

I've heard all good things about VIAIR products.

If you dont use your ac I would convert it. I think when I did mine it cost me probly 60 bucks but that is with no air tank. I can fill my 34x10.5s pretty quick sorry dont have a time yet but it is quick and thats at idle.

This is how I did the output side. Filter into a tee with a safty pop off and a quick disconnect.

Do you have a write up for doing it without a tank? I would love to do this! can you power air tools off of it ok?

Doing it without an air tank is ok for tires only, but it will cause your AC pump to burn out sooner because it will be constantly running when your air is on. You also cannot run air tools because without a tank you will have no built up supply of compressed air in your system. To convert your AC to OBA typically costs about $100 - $150 with the tank. It just depends on how nice of an oiler and filter you buy and wether or not you incorporate a safety valve, check valve, and manifold. That VIAR system is pretty nice and would probably only be a little bit slower than a converted AC system.

The cheapest way to do it without a tank (like in the picture above) is to put an air tool oiler filled with compressor oil on the intake to your AC pump, then attach an oil filter, safety valve, and tire filler on the outlet of the pump. To wire it just run ignition power from the fuse block through a switch and then to the wire coming off of the AC pump. Dont run it straight from battery power or it will drain your battery if you forget to turn off the switch. With a tankless set up you will want to be pretty quick about getting your chuck onto the tire after you turn it on or the pressure will build up pretty quick and blow that safety valve. The nice part about doing it this way is you can quickly and cheaply build a system built to fill tires that you can later add a tank on to for using air tools.
