What you need to check is the gear ratio though because miss matched gears will tear your transfer case apart. You currently have a c8.25 axle which is stronger than the Dana 35 which is a more common axle in the xj. So if you're worried about strength or just want to do it "right" the first time shop around for another 8.25. If you just need something now to get you by and can't find an 8.25 or aren't worried about strength because you don't beat on your rig then the D35 will do you just fine.
99.9% of XJs with auto tranny have 3.55 gears. All XJs with manual have 3.07. If you have an auto tranny just be sure and nab an axle out of an XJ with an auto.

I know this, but if he had luck like I do he would grab an axle with incorrect gearing lol. But definitely good info for him to have incase he didn't know

I'm almost new to jeeps but I'm still kinda fresh to wheeling, so I want to get an axle that will work for now an rebuild the one I have. I don't even have a clue how to tell what kind of gears I have, I'm running on 33in wranglers and still get decent MPG

Look along the bolts that hold the dif cover on and there should be a tag with a set of numbers like 3.55, or 3:55, 3.73, 3:73 etc. If you don't have a tag on rear check the front.

You most likely have 3.55s. You should see if one of the Bonney lake crew will help you out with your jeep, there are a lot of talented people out there.
If it is a separated axle tube and everything else is good you could probably get it rewelded.
In the mean time check for a tag on the dif, and/or take pics of it and post them up and DONT wheel the damned thing lol.

There's my .02...

I'll check that out in the morning, it feels like something is lose in the back! I don't know the best way to describe it but when I apply the brake slowing down to like 5 mph the rear end slips or jumps, it doesn't do it all the time I mean I can go a week w/o it doing it then have it do it for 2-3 days in a row the then stop, I don't know... It's frustrating....

I don't know anybody in BL I wish I did
Ps your 02 didn't show
