Technically for federal law all vehicles after a certain year are required to have one. If you go to a shop to get your vehicle fixed and you have removed your cat, by law they are supposed to install one. Kind of stupid lol. Google the "clean emissions act"(?) and you'll see. Most people get away with it because just like you said, emissions testing and not every state does it

Correct. State law doesn't require it, but federal law does. Actually, if I remember correctly, it's a felony to remove it. $5,000 fine and 5 years in prison for removal. Nothing like posting in a public forum what you did.

Sad side note. Some deputies learned this the hard way. Posted some stuff on a public forum they were doing which was selling guns. It's legal. They just went over their allowed amount without a license. Guess what? Landed them in hot water. They will probably do 1-3yrs in jail. DA got a warranty, sent it to the forum owner, and got their info.

The link answers sound (how loud by decimal reading) and horse power on all the muffler your looking at.

I have ran all three in the 35+ cars I have owned. What is your question that wasn't answered by a sound video (showing muffler your looking at) and a link showing a dyno sheet?

I am here to help! Put me in coach.

Well like, I got one answer from someone saying that they run a cherry bomb.

PRO - Cheap, round design so less of a chance of getting hung up on something, Easy to install / no welding required in some cases.

CON - 4L doesn't like it due to no back pressure, Drop in fuel economy, Rusts out quick / short life span.

The Cherry Bomb "glass pack" style from my previous experience they only last about 5-10,000 miles. This was back in 1990 I ran it.

The Cherry Bomb Vortex I ran showed rust after a year. A lot.

The Magnaflow I have had on for 2+ years. No rust, no rattles.

The Flow Masters I have ran in past have showed signs of rust with in a year.

The DynoMax (not mentioned) did rattle after 90 days of owning. Removed.

I live in sunny California. Go figure.

You didn't mention Borla. I have those on 2 out of the three vehicles I own. Based on the dyno sheet and decimal reading I like this muffler the best. After 2yrs on last vehicle. No rattles, nor signs of rust.

I can go on....Does this help in combo with a professional opinion I posted above?

In conclusion,

Based on dyno (shows what muffler gets along with back pressure) and sound. Borla and Magnaflow win in my book. Did I mention lifetime warranty?

Yes, Thats exactly what I was looking for. I live in western washington. Its VERY damp up here. We don't get much snow here, and when it does snow they don't really salt the roads. Instead they plow then sand the road. But I know the trails around here claim mufflers. Mine is still 1 peace, and is also the original exhaust from 1997. I will hit the youtube and look up some sound clips

there made of a cheap metal and I've returned a good handfull from when i worked at the muff shop due to factory defects. Just because there over priced dont make them high quality. Would you buy am/pm over shell if they raised the price?

Magna flow - stainless steel

Borla - stainless steel

Flow master - mild steel.

These are pretty much the top 3 common used brands
do. You see a material quality difference? You pay borla prices for a steel muffler. Its a cheaply made over priced product. Now i didnt say they wernt stout. I just dont like emm. But if you do go ahead and buy one. They sound good on certain types of engines. Its nit a brand ill spend my good money or time on using or buying.

I like Borla due to the fact it's the quietest and produces most horse power based on links above. That's just me.

Don't get me wrong, I went with Magnaflow for the suburban. But, other vehicles have Borla. $99 shipped isn't too bad for Borla.

hey ware yo find emm so cheap? must share please

i like borla over magnaflow, magnaflow just seems to have more choice sizes for me. for stuf like this :

my actual handy work

most of the rust that builds on magnaflow muffs is metal transfer from their dies. if you polish them they usually stay nice and rust free.

the bmw i am building for my self to hord till the day i die will have all stainless pipe like the above car and possibly some nice borlas but we will see when i get there
