I just bought my 4.0 98 Jeep Cherokee Sport about two months ago and this past weekend I took it up to Naches with a bunch of guys who take their Jeeps out all the time for my brother-in-laws bachelor party. To say the least we had a blast. One of the guys brought a smoker and we had tons of Beer.
My Jeep is completely stock unlike everyone elses but I took it out with them anyway and had the time of my life. That little beast was keeping up with the other guys and their 4" lifts and 33" tires until we got deep and I had to sit it out. Point of all this is that I have caught the fever. I use to have a lifted Dodge Ram 1500 but I spent too much money buying that thing to take it out and have a real good time in it. Now, I want to make this Jeep my weekend warrior and get it set up. The problem is I have no idea how to stay within my budget.
I am looking to get a 3.5-4" lift and run some 31 x 10.5 tires. With that being said I want to be able to take it out and have some fun but not go crazy. I am not interested in rock climbing at this point, probably just mudding and trailling. I also want to stay around $1200-$1500 without being cheap and breaking my stuff while messing around. For the time being it's going to be my primary vehicle so it has to be pretty decent in the city too.
Any help and feedback would be appreciated. I have been to told to go BFGoods on my tires which I have on their now but they are only 29's and I have been directed towards Rubicon and rough country lifts. Thanks guys and I look forward to posting some pics up this summer of my first trips!

With a 1200 to $1500 budget you could go with an RC 3in and AALs but don't use the AALs ($255).Buy an S-10 bastard pack for the rear from the jy ($40).2in spacers for the front ($40).Discos($46).Rear brake hose from a 96 Dodge Dakota(6in longer than XJ only $26).Soft 8s from Summit($182 for all 4)and the rest on some good tires.Good luck!

Thanks, but what's crap? If I go with some of the rough country 3.5" for $561 is that crap? I am not sure what model it was that I saw but I know it was rough country. What about I saw some BFG 31" for around $180/piece, but for that money in that brand with 10ply is that crap?

I bought my 4.5 inch lift with an AAL from JC whitney for 420 shipped or within 20bucks of that. It was a rough country and I love it, works fine for me.
4.5 inch coils, AAL, brake line extenders, shocks, 1 inch TC drop kit (never used it) Ended up doing bastard packs anyways because towing my boat around for a summer really wore it out.

i had the same exact jeep at one point. it went everywhere with a 3.5" Rubicon express superride lift kit and 33" tires. even with 31s it went everywhere. the lift is only like $600 then you could get some Maxxis bighorn tires and be set

Don't ask xjoffroad anything about RC.He hates them but has never owned one.
