Default Ford Ranger

please dont move this thread... i posted it here to get locals opinions and for mor people to veiw it.

so folks, i love my jeep to death and its death is hopefully far off. the bad mpg is killing me though. school will start soon and i will be quiting my money job for my fun job. it takes me a full tank of gas to go to the rivers(one way) so i was thinking of getting a ford ranger maybe like a 99' or so. ide keep the jeep just wouldnt be such a gas hog of a daily driver. the roads along the rivers are mud troughs as is so a 4x4 is a must and i do love taking the jeep but cant afford that when sometimes i go twice a week or at least weekly.

so any input of a ford ranger would be awesome!!! can the 4 cylender tow? how relable are they? would mildly build it like a prerunnerr
thanks for your input

I would invest the money that a second vehicle would cost ya into improving your current XJ. Or at the least get a second XJ and build it as a DD. What with insurance and payments or whatever on a Ranger. That would add up to a lot of fuel for your current rig anyway, so if your just looking at total dollars spent for the season, it may be cheaper to maintain what you have.

If you're buying something simply for the gas mileage, look for a small car. To make it worth it, get something CHEAP. Like an old Cavalier or Focus. I have a 1996 Chevy S-10 with the 2.2L motor in it. I've had it since 2003 and have put 85,000 miles on it. The odometer currently reads about 235,000 miles. I've never had a problem with it other than a water pump a few years back. It gets around 20 mpg in town, and about 28 mpg on the highway. I paid $1,200 for it.

iv got a ranger for a dd and i love it. i dont have death wobble to worry about or horrible gas mileage. i get 25mpg on the highway vs 14 in my xj, not to mention it handles alot better. id say go for it! id sell you my ranger if you were closer as im trying to buy a newer ranger now
