How is your power? Do you have plenty? I ask this cause for quite sometime I ran my Jeep with a broken flexplate. Had two shops tell me it wasn't a problem. Finally listened to the "old man" and took a look at it myself. Holy S**T! Center punched clean out!

Default That ****ing E12 bolt on the passenger side

Holy ****ing Christ I just fought it for an hour and the goddamned shifter cable is in the way a million other cables are in the way. I already disconnected the kick down cable but there's no play with it. Any ideas? Or is this a nightmare across the board?

U get at it from the bottom side with 4 feet of extensions and dropping the crossmember so you can lower the tcase and trans down enough to get your extensions up through there.

Well, Timmy is rignt. Long extensions and inbolting the crosember and droping the rear of the tranny down as much as you can. I have long arms so I was able tobget those 2 wierd reverse torx tip bolts out with the correct tip and a 1/2 inch drive ratchet with just one 6" and one 3" extention.

I promptly threw them in the closest round file and replaced them with regular grade 8 hex head bolts.

I was dropping the tranny to change the flex plate which turned into changing a bearing which lead to a new pump which led to new bolts and out with the crap e12 and now putting it back in. The problem with my old e12 was that it was stripped and the idiots that put a rebuild in it only put three bolts back in the t-case to hold it and only tightened one all the way. So after lots of fighting and dictionary words I got it and discovered all the problems. My endeavor continues but should be done soon.

I had the same knock and was convinced my flex plate had gone, too (two of the bolts were even loose enough to turn by hand, but still flush to the plate.) Then I noticed the anti-sieze colored fluid hitting my exhaust while going down the freeway one day...it wasn't the flex plate. It was either the torque converter or the fluid pump having a glitter party in the trans, but that was going to be way too much work to tear it all apart, clean it, and reassemble it. Popped in a cert'd used AW4 for $300 and it's been great ever since.
