well went up swakane with a few buddies to scope stuff out since we havent been in a while and the road that takes you to the jeep trail now has a lovely gate and rock wall around it.... even the lower trail is cut off with a bunch of massive 4 or 5 man rocks. but i did find another trail that looks like it goes up into the same area. no winch so i didnt attempt it. there was a group of guys in cj's that came down it and they said they were out in a field on the top of that trail so i know it goes to the same spot.. chelan county fined a guy 2000$ for "mudding" up the main road... after the guy got his ticket the dnr or forest service made all the main roads which used to be in-passable in anything other than a 4x4, totally tree-hugger friendly; re-grated and all fresh 5/8" gravel all the way from cashmere to entiat; saw a huge group of hippies up at sugarloaf lookout with subaru's and honda's even saw a G,D hybrid

Just found out a couple weekends ago that there is a nice logging road built right through the middle of Lower Mainline Trail up at Walker Valley. So far the DNR isn't acting like ***** and keeping Jeepers out. I really hope they don't start and that we get our full trail back when the logging is done. There have been new trail systems built in clear cut areas up there and quite frankly I like them just as well if not better than the forest covered spots. Luckily there are several clubs and free lance guys like me who have adpopted trails up there and do a lot of maintenace and work with the DNR on building new trails so they keep them fish, wildlife and tree hugger friendly so Walker doesn't get closed. Unfortunately, guys, that is the only way to keep your favorite local wheeling spots open. Fighting it just gets them closed for good. We came REALLY REALLY close to losing Reiter but there are a butt ton of local wheelers working feverishly to ensure the "new" Reiter Foothills trail system will be opened up eventually.

it's really disappointing to see all my favorite local spots going the way of the dinosaur... every time i go i bring garbage bags for all my shtuff and other peoples too... i tread lightly and buy a forest pass, in the hopes they'll keep the dang trails open. but like everything else i guess; theres always some moron screwin it up for the people who do care.
