Finally got a front axle! Ford dana 60
The size difference between the 60 and 44 shafts is crazy lol the 60 has 35 spline inner shafts and 30 spline outers. I am going to do it right and get 35 spline outers right out of the gate
I am also meeting a guy tonight to trade my old dana 60 rear axle for a hobart mig welder

I traded my old rear dana 60 for this hobart Beta-mig 1800 welder. Its a pittle older and needs a few parts that are worn out but it should do me much better than the lincoln 100 ive been using
I also began tearing apart the front 60. The guy i bought it from told me that his buddy told him he needed a new front axle because this one was toast... So far all i can find wrong with it was a seized caliper... Score!
For those of you who havent seen a 60 shaft. Here is a stock dana 44 stub shaft next to a stock 30 spline dana 60 shaft... I will be swapping in 35 spline stub shafts which are even larger than the 30 spline
I also picked up a barely used Griffin aluminum radiator with the taurus fan conversion to cool this thing

Yeah, I figure it should weigh a little less. You do have a frame now but, you basically added the weight of a frame when you installed the Exo Cage to Chericon. That YJ is going to be a beast!!

I've got the same problem with my new Jeep. I really need new coils and leafs as the ones on my old Jeep are pretty worn out. I want to get Chromoly axle shafts and new 4.88 gears for the front and rear. I need new tires and want to get 35s. I'd also like to do rear disc brakes. Pretty much all I can do for sure right now is get the motor out of my old Jeep put in the new Jeep so I can make it a runner. I'm also going to remove the rest of the "keeper" parts from my old Jeep and haul the wrinkled, wrecked unibody off to the nearest JY so it's no longer sitting around being yard art...LOL!

i think you will love the new gear/tire setup! are you planning on keeping that 30 up front? honestly it will cost less to swap a dana 44 than to chromo your whole front axle.... lol hey i happen to have a front 44 with locker and 4.88s for sale hahahaha

Got a few things done in the past couple days
I didnt take any pictures (which i should have). But i decided to cut down my front dana 60 a couple inches to get it to match the rear 14 bolt. It was much easier than i expected and i feel comfortable doing it from now on.
First i cut the weld that holds the inner "C" onto the axle tube. I got the C knocked off and cut down the tube 2". I only shortened one side because the drivers side on a dana 60 already has barely any tube between the pumpkin and knuckle.
I ground down the tube and "massaged" the inner "C" back on to the tube and got it in to position angle wise. Measured about a million times to make sure everything lined up and began welding. I welded 3 beads over it to make sure it isnt going anywhere
The only pictures i took
Just need to get my passenger side axle shaft cut down 2 inches and it should be good to go!
I also got around to mounting my tube bender to the floor in my garage
Still waiting to sell my front 44.
