zj transfer case into Xj?

In a word maybe. Jeep used 23 spline cases from 91 on but in 3 different lengths. ZJs came with AWD cases which you wouldn't want as well as 242s which are fine. There are some rare ZJ 231s out there but don't count on finding one.
