ZJ seats in an XJ?
Well i did a search and havent found anything yet. I bought a 2000 xj a year a go and the guy i bought the jeep from was a .........um larger fella. The drivers seat slants really bad to the right and is very uncomfortable on long rides. My father in law has a mid 90's ZJ and the seats are comfortable as heck! Anyone know for sure if the front zj seats will fit in the front of an xj? And if so what fabrication is required. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes they will fit as long as you don't mind doing some bracket modifications. You can also get the 60/40 rear seats to work as well for a full interior over haul.

Awesome i appreciate the help. But what kind of "bracket modifications" are we talking about? Do i use the xj seat brackets or the zj ones?

Well the holes aren't the same pattern so the is some drilling required to get them to match up with the ZJ seats. The reason you want to use the XJ bracket is because they already mount properly to the floor.

Ok GREAT!!!! thanks a lot. I just wanted to make sure there wasnt cutting and welding and this and that involved. Re drilling new holes and mounting them up is no biggie. Thanks for the help. ill let you know how it goes.

A ZJ seat is a direct bolt in to a 95+ XJ when retaining the XJ seat base...
Try another search, i did so with "ZJ seat swap" and found multiple hits. Perhaps you werent using productive search terms.

Just found an awesome post that answered my question. In case anyone else is curious here is the answer.........now the shopping begins!
Seat Failure
Weak link: Front seats
Models affected: All
What happens: XJ front seats use a stamped metal framework that is spot-welded together. Occasionally these spot welds will break. The result is that the seat will often lean rearward and crooked.
Strong fix: One option is to hit the salvage yard and procure a pair of seats from a comparable XJ. Dan McKeag at Burnsville Off Road says that a better option is to install a pair of seats from a '99-'04 Grand Cherokee. These seats are way more comfortable because they are contoured and of better quality overall. They will bolt directly to the XJ seat tracks.

Found EXACTLY what i was looking for when you told me what to search for. The only problem is now that i know what im looking for the junk yard wants 125 bucks PER SEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! gotta search craigslist a little better i guess. Honestly all joking aside......thanks for the help.

Your original question and title of this thread was about a "ZJ" seat into an XJ. 99+ Grand Cherokee's are WJ's... which you found also bolt in.
ZJ seats from 93 through 98 are also a bolt in just like the WJ's.. you can widen your search for seats.
You have two seperate threads on the same question.. one here in Fab and another in PacNW.. both should be in chat/tech. I'v asked that the appropriate Mod merge and move to correct area.

Bringin' it back from the dead since this is identical to my problem. Funny enough, mine is also a 2000 with a "larger previous owner" problem. To make a long story short, I have some bad back problems and I need some comfort and support. My question is that I am soon to purchase some power leather WJ seats to swap in and I keep reading about the need of existing XJ mounting hardware. Seeing that the stamped steel as mentioned previously in the thread is the issue at hand with my current seats, will this become a new issue when mounting the new WJ seats? Or are the rails mounted to the floor all that are needed?
And also, if anyone has some insight, what am I getting myself into with the power/heated seats being installed into my '00 XJ with manual seats? I've read of some pigtail or something that is on the XJ harness already on a few websites. Is it really a plug and play setup??
Thanks,
-Tyler

I have a similar question to the last guy. My dad has a power zj seat frame at his shop because he needed to replace just te seat for a customer. I need a little bit of height adjustment and am willing to do some drilling, just need to know if there is a spot on the harness so I can hook it up to the seatframe
