I just got done doing this modification to my xj...and I just wanted to let anyone know who is interested in doing it that you have to grind down the black steel bracket as well as the aluminum bracket...save you some frustaration...I can't tell you if it made a difference yet or not because my power wire to my alternator is about worthless putting a new wire on tonight...anyhow have fun.

The wire you are replacing is it the one that goes to the power dis. box , and has a fusiable link on the end? Make sure you replace it with the same type of wire.

did you get the alt out of one with v8 or 4.0? i have found that some of the grands with the 4.0 had a 136 amp alt. and its a direct bolt in.

 

I went to Advance and asked for a 136 amp v8 grand cherokee alternator...sorry no pics..I did it while I was at work...I only work like 10 minutes out of every hour!

 

Just curious, what is the amp rating of the alternator you're replacing? My 01 XJ came from the factory with 124 amp alt.

Autozone has a 120amp upgrade for those of us with 90amp alternators and it's a direct bolt in
