Typical too fast through a mudhole story left me dead in the water. Pulled plugs in the field and got it started, ran it home on 3-4 cyl before I realized I had plug wires switched. So it is running on all six now... but it still doesn't act right. In drive it wont rev past 3000 but if I put it in 2-1 it will. Also at 2000 rpm it will pulse and surge. Then as I was almost home it started to die at stop signs. Oil change is planned, where else should I start? And its my daily driver too boot!! So sad being a broke college kid.

 

Moisture under distributor cap? Plug wires arcing?

 

Hydrolocking a motor breaks pistons/bends rods......u probably just got some electrical component(s) wet and not hydrolocked the motor. Common Sense 101 (or do they not teach that).....go around (not thru) mud puddles in daily drivers.

tried to get the distributor cap off but the screws are rusted to heck, need a longer extension to get my 1/4" driver down there to use the 8mm

 

Been there done that. Do a full tuneup on it and change the oil. Then drive 30-100 miles and change it again, new filters both times. Keep checking for milkyness in the oil.

Likely you got a few sensors wet and there is probably still water in the intake. Check you map sensor line, when i hydrolocked mine for some reason the line collapsed and made it run like ****.

Do not drive it anymore until oil has been changed, you may have done alot of damage just driving it home with water in there=[.

Expensive lesson=[ Likely your motor will never be the same and will blow way before it would have, hydrolocking is not easy on them.

 

Sounds like your one of those people who has to wash the jeep just to not get a dirty hand. What hes getting at with the stupid comment with no helpful info is you got the IAC and TPS censors wet and maybe also got your map.try a new TPS and clean the crap outta your throlle body and IAC might be able to save a little cash on all new censors

 

Peace bro.........I'm not bashing the college boy, or anyone else for that matter, but if I got him to think ahead, just a little, about how he treats/drives his daily driver, then just maybe he'll think ahead a little the next time. Sometimes the School of Hard Knocks is a great place to get a good education in Common Sense 101. Heaven knows, he may be majoring in Safety and Risk Management which is basically like having a PhD in Common Sense.

Its been almost (if not) 1 year since i hydro locked mine. Got the infamous tick that august. Pavement pounder/rock crawler/trails i know GOOD/DD. sucks learning the hard way. Im college student also...

sometimes ticks don't lead to anything, the family honda civic has ticked for the last 125000 miles, hasn't changed just a sticky lifter. but then again they can sometimes signal the demise of the motor.
