Hey guys! When I first got my jeep, I was driving down the highway after purchasing it (about 3 hours from home) and I hit the keys, and the keys simply came out. I panicked, but everything was just fine. This happened when the keys were in the RUN posistion. I then when I got home, turned the key off and into the ACC posistion and the same thing happened, the keys came right out but nothing was affected. Now on hot days in general and I have the good 'ol faithful dog riding shot gun, instead of having the windows down when I have to go in somewhere, I turn the A/C on blast, leave the engine running, pull the keys out, and lock the door with the key fob. Anyone else able to do this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Cant say im able to. My pops hand a old pick up he could do it with tho. My guess is the jey has been really worn down wich is why it slides out. id bet that if u make a fresh copy of the key u wouldnt be anle to do this with the new one.

I had a spare made and it's hidden on the jeep incase I lock myself out. It still does it, must be because the column is worn too. I don't care, especially cause the dog can chill in the A/C and the jeep still be locked. Just wondering how many of use take "advantage" of this....

the actual key is not the problem, is the the locking cylinder that wears out. this was common on the 87-90 keys. i had the same problem on my 88 and swapped the key cylinder (got a new one for $12), got a new key and i was all set.

I can pull the key out in 91 while it's running, too. Doesn't bother me so didn't bother with fixing it.

I used to do the same thing in my 89, I could pull the key out while it was running and I wouldn't need the key again. After I pulled it out while running I could turn the jeep on/off as much as I wanted without the key. It was pretty awesome as I told everyone at school I was a magician.

any type of long term problems that you can think of by ignoring the problem?
