You mentioned you heard a clicking noise in the back left area. This is probably the area.

Pic is of my '99 XJ.

Any trailer tow connectors would be in this area.

Someone on this, or another, forum had left rear brake light problems and found the wiring in this area smoked.
I had that panel off yesterday (you can see it in my video) but I couldn't get that stupid black plastic piece off to get to the wire grouping that I needed to check.

You need one of those trim fastener removal tools to pop that piece off.

Do you have a trailer tow package in your truck? Everyone seems to be ragging on trailer tow chit.

Is there a way to remove it without completely ripping off the fasteners? If it comes down to me just having to cut them off I don't care, but if I can remove them any other way without damaging them I would prefer it.

And yes, I have a trailer harness. but I'm not sure if it's stock or aftermarket...seeing that I have an aftermarket hitch receiver, I'm assuming that the wiring is aftermarket also (I might just disconnect all of the trailer wiring if I can't fix it any other way)
