Yes, the clockspring topic has been covered many times but there is one question I have seen asked only once but without a conclusive reply.
Is the clockspring from the TJ, #56009071ae a direct interchange with the XJ #56009071? I've seen one post in another forum say 'yes' it is but provides no more detail. I'm guessing the connector for the cruise switch is different and explains the variation in the part number. The problem with that guess is that it implies Chrysler used logic in the design of their vehicles. If anyone knows either way with certainty I would appreciate a heads-up.
My column was soaked in a recent storm (leak in the windshield) and my cruise along with the horn (well, kind of, the horn solenoid still clicks) quit working. This was accompanied with a shifting and rough idle issue that was not corrected with a new TPS.
I’m going to crack open the clockspring this evening to make sure it’s bad and if it is a new TJ clockspring looks to be roughly half the price of the XJ's.
Thanks,
J-

I did look up both parts. For the TJ it's 56009701ae. For the XJ it's 56009701. Does the 'ae' indicate it's not the same part? I'm hoping someone knows for a fact that they are or are not interchangable.

Do you know this, or are you assuming this? Have you seen and compared both parts? I'm not try to be an ***, just like working with facts. Different part numbers are used for the same part used in different cars/trucks fairly often.

I actually found a used XJ clockspring on eBay from what looks to be a reputible seller who accepts returns. Interestingly, the clockspring I bought was listed as a TJ part, but the photo showed the XJ part number.
I have been told the 'ae' represents a revision number to the original part and that it will work with the XJ. I still have not been able to confirm this. If the used clockspring doesn't workout I'll return it and will order a new clockspring with the 'ae' on the part number. My only real concern with going with that part first is that the Mopar Part site who is asking ~$90 for it does not accept returns on electrical parts.
