I'm pretty sure that the jeep Cherokee (xj model) came with the Dana 30 disconnect from 1984 to around 1996. From an unnamed source, they are certain that the disconnect axle was only on some 4wd xj models during this time. I've been to many jy and have yet to see a non disconnect Dana 30 on a pre mid 90's model. Can anyone confirm this?? Thanks

 

92+ is non disconnect. Anything prior is a disconnect axle unless the Jeep had the 242 (selectrac) transfer case. Keep in mind people swap axles all the time, so it won't always be that simple.

 

I thought it was 90+ that didn't have discos but I could be wrong.

 

90 still had disconnect. IIRC, disconnect went part way through 91.

 

However, any XJ that had the 242 tcase, had a non disco axle, even in the 80's.

84 thru 91 had disco with a 231 case the 242 didnt have the disco
