Default Y-link Long arm questions

What do you guys like and dislike about particular y-link kits on the market? If there was anything you could change, what would it be? What did you like about them (if you liked them please say what kit it is)? I am hoping to build my own long arms in the future, and want to make the best possible.

i'm not a fan of the radius are design bc of the pinion dive characteristics and the 'unloading' that can be experienced on hillclimbs. that being said however, basically a zillion people run them and have 0 complaints.

I have to disagree, I have seen them in action, and they perform excellently!! At least in the rocks, which is my primary terrain. I like the Treks system the best because of the clearance they provide. As well as the belly pan that comes with their kit, it is total beef. When I fab mine, that is the design that I will be looking at.

rock crawling they are alright but will still blow out bushings. whenever hills are involved though, no thanks.

I run the RE radius design with Claytons crossmember. Honestly, i went with it to improve road manners over the 4link and drop brackets i had prior.

I dont wheel much anymore, espescially large rocks so it serves my purpose extremely well.

Who's junk have you been using? I've replaced 1 set of urethane inserts in 2 TeraFlex medium joints. I've been running them for years.

I build, sell, and install my own LA's and have yet to have a single failure. Unloading can occur on any suspesion system if the ri is on a steep enough angle. A simple removable limiting strap on the center of the axle can be used if your so inclined.

Y-link long arms are the most popular design because of the unsurpassed ride quality, articulation, and redundant upper control arms. Break an upper arm and there's another one there to keep the axle in place and get ya off the trail and back home. Break an upper on a 3-link design and your up the creek.

The reason you may not be seeing them is the cost of the name brand kits that are on the market. Let's be honest here, most folks aren't willing or finacialy able to drop $1800 on an upgrade for an existing lift, especially given the current state of the economy.

Don't dismiss running a LA suspension, It really is a massive improvement over the stock setup.

Would anybody like to post some measurements of their radius arms? Preferably the length of the lower arm, upper arm, and how far back the upper arm mounts on the lower arm.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I just cant afford fishing out the dough for a $800 kit.

Most Y link kits use 16" upper arms, which just happens to be stock length. That way they can use the same arm in another four link kit.

The lower arms can be whatever length you want them. It just depends on where and how you mount them. that is really the hard part, the mounting.

So it doesnt really matter how long the lower arm is, or where the upper attaches to the lower? As long as I can adjust the axle position ill be fine?
