XJ won't start; here are the facts....
1994 Cherokee 4.0 auto wouldn't start the other day...
- Turn the key, and all lights and dings come on, but engine makes no noise. It doesn't even try to start...
- Battery, cables and connections all tested and good...
- Troubleshot for the neutral safety switch and that isn't it...
- Replaced starter...
- All fuses good...
- You can "hot wire" the starter and get it to run...
So what is the deal, ignition switch?

If you have a starter relay in the PDC like later models, I'd try swapping that.
Also see if it clicks on when the key is turned to "start". If it doesn't, it's either the relay coil ground- supplied through the NSS, or positive 12V signal from the ignition switch.

It does click, and the starter can be "jumped" by touching the 2 posts while the key is turned...leads me to think it is something within the ignition.
