So I have an 88 cherokee with a good condition windshield, and I have a cracked one on my 94 XJ, and was wondering if the windshield from the 88 would fit on the 94 or would it not if it had different mouldings?

A new one will cost about $100 or less installed mine did. As stated above if you know how to remove one properly then do so, but the same goes for installing one so it doesn't leak. If the answer to either of these is no consider a shop doing it for you.
I've replaced one windshield in my years and it was on a 1975 Toyota that I had in college. $15 for the windshield and my labor. That's all I could afford. If you are in the same boat, give it a try. Otherwise have a pro do it. They really don't cost much to have it done.
I have a guy that's done several of mine and I asked him what he would charge me.
He said that he would order one and bring it out and if the 'used one' would crack getting out. Well then he would just replace it with new.
BUT, he was done in 45min!!
He does have a attachment in his saw-zall that he uses on the inside that and soapy water cuts through quite fast. the blade is perpendicular instead of longitudinal..
Maybe around 3" long.

It's not so hard to glue a windshield in. Last time I put shims at the bottom so it couldn't slide down, then looped small cord around through the cab with a truckers hitch and two plastic jugs under it. Cinch tight, leave overnight. One calking tube of butal rubber is enough.
Getting one out is an art I never mastered. I won't try again. The last couple of inches easily tweaks it enough to crack.

I agree with everyone.
have an expert do it.
$100 is not bad at all.
I would be there when he did it.
If the seal was not good you may have some rust that need attention and paint.
Do it while he has the windshield out. May take overnight at his location.

Do make sure you look at the new, cleaned well, in sunlight. I Got a "supper deal", ($50) in a shaded ..."area" . A couple of weeks later I did the final cleaning after install and found it was pitted to hell, seen in full sunlight. (that waz American Auto Wreckers in Springfield Ore. (Yes, the real Springfield of Simpsons). Ore. No doubt, there, for sure. Clean it well and inspect in full sun, before you buy used.
