Default XJ gas leak

Hey guys just wondering if any of you have experienced what I did this morning? I was gassing up my XJ and heard something dripping under it. I looked under it and it was gas coming from somewhere above the tank. I’ve only owned it for a few months but this is the first time this has happened. I’ve noticed a gas smell around the exterior of the Jeep for a couple of weeks now. Is there an overflow on the tank somewhere or maybe a line that’s dry rotted on me. Never dropped the tank on one of these so I don’t really know what’s up there. I plan on adding my lift soon so I thought about dropping the tank while I had it on jack stands. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

it being a 2000, i can only take a guess.... could be possible that the seal where the pump is old and no good any more.

i have an 87, so my set up id different but had the same problem. I could only fill half the tank for a while, it ended up being the tank for me. I had replaced the ring and o-ring three times before i noticed where these items go with the pump had been damaged or just overused. I replaced the tank and no more problems.

I started installing my lift today. I think I’ll go ahead and drop the tank while everything is out of the way. Reckon that seal will be at a parts house or is this gonna be an online item?

You should be able to get it at any auto parts place... I know for my seal and ring I got them all three times through Napa
