Default Xj beeps above 75 mph

Hi there,
I have a a 1996 XJ Classic with 4.0l automatic engine. The car starts beeping (the sound comes from somewhere below the dashboard) when I am above 120Km/h (approx 75mph). It is a warning signgnal that I am above 120km/h. Is there any way to turn that off?
Thanks

I live in the UAE and there was a law here that all cars needed to have a speed alarm at 120Km/h. It starts beeping at 120km/h, as long as I am avove that speed it beeps. As soon as I am below it stops beeping.
There must be somwhere in the car a device that gives acustic alarms, may be I can just disable that one. Where would I find it?

its gona be kinda hard to explain but once you disable that sound you will also have no warning sound about your key in th ignition..... But i gona try to explain how to find it an what it kinda looks like. First you need to take your dash apart it should be easier to take the whloe thing apart but once you got it all apart put your key in the ignition to where it makes that beeping noise an really just follow the sound it should be in a black box thats maybe a 1 to 1 1/2 tall maybe 3 or 4 inches wide an about 6 inches long.... once you find the box be careful an take it apart an ull see this cylinder type thing an thats what is making the noise just take the cylinder apart an your good

Alot of vehicles have these, on the newer xjs the "beeper" is integreral to the instrument cluster, This was prob designed so we couldn't make it go away.

if youre just pulling the warning buzzer, you do NOT need to take the dash off.

put the key in, turn it back, open the door, and look under the steering wheel near the fuse box until you feel it. pull it out.

if its the same unit as the speed warning, youre done.

yes its easy access i apologize if i made it seem like the dash had to be removed....its up under by your peddels u cant miss the mutiple fuses....and just open your door so the buzzer starts , its clear to see without the noise but if you werent sure that would pinpoint it...and its as easy as just pulling it out it just has multiple prongs on it...pulls out like a huge fuse..noise gone..

Thanks guys I found it. It is a small half cigarette size blue box. It sits underneath the dashboard towards the left side of the car. It had a separate cable going in besides the two standard connectors. I disconnected it now only the 75mph alarm is gone the rest works fine. Looks like it was a modification done by the car importer into the UAE at that time.
