Anyone know how to tell the difference between a Clearwater head and a stock 0331? Does the Clearwater have a certain casting mark in it that the factory head doesnt?
Edit - I found a thread that looks like it might help but still looking for a solid answer.

Ya I think thats what I will have to do. The more I look at my head, the more it looks like a normal 0331. Its got 00 cast into it and I think that refers to the year it was made. I have a feeling its a junk head but I am still getting it checked for cracks to know for sure.

Could I put a manifold and head pipe from a HO Cherokee on my renix Comanche? Just put the o2 sensor in the head pipe and do away with the egr port thing? Or is that a no no? Not really sure what the egr crap even does since I don't have it on my 99. Also what is the larger diameter hose going from the side of the manifold to the front of the air box? And can it be removed? It's mostly collapsed and kinda falling apart. Just seeing what can be simplified, replaced, or removed.
No, I don't lick fish.

When I got the new AutoZone pump home, I discovered it looked IDENTICAL to the MOPAR pump... same casting marks, stamping, everything.

I believe the Clearwater head casting comes from China so unless they copied everything I would expect it to have some different casting marks. I was going to get a Clearwater head until I checked their BBB rating and customer feedback.
Same here with the Napa fan clutch. I believe it to be a rebranded Hayden but don't quote me on that. I was thinking of getting the heavy duty one they sell but my friend said unless I am having some problems with my cooling and since I don't tow don't. He said my gas mileage would tank and it would be louder. He is good with mechanical stuff so I just usually do what he suggests and leave it at that.
lol... hate to burst your "peace of mind" bubble, but when my AutoZone pump with a MOPAR pump, the bearing in the MOPAR pump went bad within a few months. Couldn't warranty replace it because the website I bought it from didn't "list it" as being the correct part for my year XJ. So I went to AutoZone to see if I they'd replace it (couldn't remember where I bought the pump from because it had been so long)... sure enough, but it from AutoZone and it carried a lifetime replacement guarantee.

So I reached around to the rack behind me and grabbed a $2 can of gold engine paint and bought the blue one for the Olds. This was one of my first experiences with computerized parts application software and intentional deceptive business practices. Been sour and not trusting about computer parts control and have smelled these things out many many times since. lol

Kind of related story about NAPA water pumps. Back in the 80's they tried to do me a dirty one time concerning application. I was getting a water pump for a 76 Cadillac, they pulled the number up on the computer and brought me out a pump and told me it was $85. Knowing that this motor was actually an Olds 350 I asked them to pull me one for an Olds and it was only $35. The only difference was the one for the Caddy was painted gold and the Olds pump was blue.

I have seen this and questioned this too. What I think is there may be a "technicality" when using the term "new". "Like new refurbished" is being wrongly applied as "new" instead of using the term "rebuilt". So I would bet it is actually a Mopar casting that has been re-machined and "like new". These are the little tricks they pull that pisses me off with these parts stores. lol
