Hi Guys and Gals!
I just started looking for my first XJ and decided I should join this forum and ask for guidance from all of you who are much more knowledgable than me. Here's a brief overview of what I plan to use it for:
Everyday driver/part time family vehicle
Camping/adventure vehicle
Transportation up to the snow
Overtime I plan on making minor modifications ie: 3" lift, 31" tires, cold air intake, exhaust system, etc.
Here's my current situation:
I found a '95 Cherokee Sport for sale, craigslist link below:
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/5910100241.html
It has just over 176k miles and is listed at $5600. I drove it earlier today and it seems to run just fine. The seller had an MPI done and the only items that came up on the form were:
Steering linkage - bushings worn
Suspension - struts worn
Rear main and output shaft seal - slight oil leaks
I checked out the CarFax and everything seems in order there:
3 previous owners - all lived in CA
No accidents reported
Is this Jeep overpriced? I appreciate that it is 22yo and only has 176k, but it is a 22yo jeep. If it is overpriced what is a fair price?
Thanks for the time and any advice that you all may have!

+1, but you're shopping in the Bay Area. I think $3000 would buy you a Toyota with three doors and one mirror...
The "inspection" is cryptic but reveals nothing novel. XJs don't have any steering bushings, and they don't have struts. Worn tie rod ends are pretty normal as are suspension bushings. Shock absorbers are probably old, no surprise there. Lots of people blame the rear main seal for a valve cover or oil filter adapter leak.
176k isn't worth that much. I'd keep looking.

Im ganna sit on it and see if anyone else has insight as well, but I might offer $3k to see if they'll take it; $5,600 is seeming more and more like pie in the sky for the seller.
No, I don't lick fish.

I was helping a friend with his Cherokee today and was curious what kind of Locker or limited slip is in his jeep. Also, if these markings meant anything as far as gear ratio goes.Attachment 297694Attachment 297695Attachment 297696

Pulled water pump today and everything looked fine. Fins we're still there. Ha! Replaced it anyway. Still having the same problem though. Motor runs hot to temp gauge reading in the red. Radiator only reading at the hottest 130 degrees. It's not getting hot enough to turn the fan on. The gauge is reading around the same as the temp light im using.
I've replaced:
Radiator
Water pump
Thermostat
Temp switch for electric fan / jumped fan to make sure it works.
I'm lost. It sounds like an air lock and we've burped it. I unscrewed the gauge sensor cause I heard that can release air if trapped. I should also mention I put a radiator with a cap in from the later models. So it is an open system now.
