I have 6.5" speakers all around, have a 12" in the trunk. There is no such thing as good and cheap especially with subs. I spend $100 on my sub used. I personally don't like kicker, but a lot will recommend them. I have alpine and my friend has jl. I'd definitely recommend either or Rockford fosgate. It all depends on your budget, new or used, and whether you want loud or quality audio.

i am getting an alpine sub and alpine speakers.... Do the 6.5 speakers fit without drilling new holes or any modification? What brand of speakers do you have? And I was wondering on what spots to use the sound damping stuff and what is brand to buy that is cheap

Even with OEM-size 5.25" speakers, you'll still have to drill new holes in the doors and probably also in the rear. 6.5"s fit well

You could try an ez out. Soak it with lube it in advance. Might need to unbolt the engine mounts to get to it.

If that doesnt work, weld a nut to it.

There is an outside chance I might be able to pick up a TUPY 0331 head from a '03 WJ. Will this be a straight bolt on for a '00 XJ with CA Emissions? Research seems to indicate the head itself is but not the engine. It is just the head that I need to confirm for sure about.

Thinking if this pans out I should grab it. Have an 0331 head, not a TUPY, in my Jeep. No problems but..... No idea what shape it is in. Just assume it needs to be rebuilt. If it even can be. But might be able to pick it up for as cheap as $50. Seeing how local it is to me I might have to just because.

If I can work it out I will. Since I am keeping my Jeep forever, well till I die anyway and then be buried in it (LOL), I decided to start hoarding parts awhile back. Been hoping to run across a TUPY head for awhile now.

I used peal and seal for sound deadening in the doors and floor and hatch. Put insulation above the headliner. You need to drill new mounting holes, but that's not a big deal. Just use self tapping screws to mount the speakers. You'd have to drill mounting holes anyway because stock speakers mount with 2 and aftermarket use 4.
