So I went for it and poured about 4oz of water into a hot engine. I also removed and cleaned and gapped all my spark plugs. Number one was covered in oil and number 2 also had some. Going to change the valve cover gasket as its leaking for sure after that and a good engine cleaning I'll see how she runs. Might do the plugs and wires again.
Hello everyone, I've never posted on a forum before and just created my account, before you tell me to search I already have and can't find anything exactly like my problem, this is my third Cherokee and I can typically fix everything or find the issue myself but I'm stumped, I have a 93 2dr XJ with the 4.0 HO, AW4 trans and 243k miles, the problem I'm having is a "bucking" so to speak when going uphill, I only have this issue in overdrive (55mph and above) when I'm going uphill it "jerks and bucks" and when I peak the hill it'll do it a couple more times then stop, it feels like it's coming from underneath the jeep where the trans is, I don't believe it's an engine issue because my RPMs don't drop or rise, hopefully someone can help me and I don't have to drop the trans
How old are the plugs, wires, cap and rotor? Due to be replaced every 30,000 miles.
Clean and refresh the plugs for the trans control. See Tip 10 in my link below.

I've been a longtime lurker and just signed up. I really enjoy the site, as well as my '98 XJ.
I do have a question that I haven't been able to answer myself through searching; what do I need to make my Jeep sit level? From my searches, I've gathered that spacers and springs might be the ticket. Or just spacers, or just springs...that's where my confusion lies. Is it one, both or am I simply wrong? This is how I bought it. Many thanks!

Got me a CB radio from a fellow forum member and wired it all up today. Anybody know where I can get an SWR Meter to tune it? Id prefer to rent or borrow one instead of having to spent some money on one just to use once. Thanks
Buy one. You'll need to tune your SWRs more than once, I promise. It's an inexpensive investment to keep your radio functioning properly and to avoid damaging the unit because of operating out of SWRs

The choice is yours really, what have you done to it so far to make the rear sit higher?
Ok, finally got my 96 2.5L 5spd suspension/wiring/cooling finished.
Did the cluster swap a while ago but never ran it more than a 15-20min so I really never 'watched' the oil gauge after it warmed up.
Starts at about 50 and as it warmed up it would drop to 5-10
thought it was the sending unit. So I changed it, (same) Plumbed in a mechanical guage. (same)
Dropped pan, popped out the rod bearings put new ones in. (they were down to copper @230K mi)
Thought that was it. Fired it up.. (same as 1) Installed new oil pump (same)
poured in 20w50/Lucas oil stabilizer.. (Same) Just installed new main bearings (They didn't look all that bad at all.. Now after warm up it STILL stays between 5-10)
Now after all that, What other parasitic leakage could there be?
I pulled the oil fill cap at the first and there was oil splashing around all over.
Now if I just didn't look at the gauge after that first warm up, I would have NEVER known.
NO noises, clacking, or overheating..
Put the mechanical gauge back on.. SAME THING!
Going tomorrow to run it down the hwy to the next town over with my son following me in case something happens.
I've rebuilt dozens of motors of all kinds, but don't know about the upper valve train on the 4cyl.
What else could there be? I mean at 80lbs it's close to blowing the filter or its seal, and a 20w50's viscosity (with the lucas) can't be thinning out that much or that fast
On most Honda car motors, they have a oil restricter between the head and block so the head doesn't flood the stem seals.
Don't know if I'm just being paranoid, but like I said, I would've NEVER known if I didn't swap out the idiot light cluster for the 6yl one.

My son's has the 'Up Country' lift and yours looks like it except the front.
Do the springs look like theyr cut?

I wish it were.Truth be told, I've done a bunch of stuff to it (axle u joints, hub assembly, brakes) to get it road worthy, but I have paid any mind to the rear suspension, so I have no idea if they're cut. Whatever it is, I have a sneaking suspicion it might be ghetto-tastic. I'll look tomorrow and snap some pics. Get ready for rust heaven.

I ended up buying one today from a local truck stop along 85. Now I can use it without breaking it. But just curious, what kind of problem would you expect from a CB that was used without being tuned? Also, I'm starting to think I mounted it too low. How badly would this effect the transmitting and what not. This is the only pic I have so far, is it too low?

A radio with bad SWR with burn itself up when you try to transmit. The mounting point isn't ideal, but it sure isn't the worst I've seen. Should be alright, but you'll have a better ratio if you get a taller antenna.

HEY! I grew up in Orland Park, just a bit N/E of you.
Peek where the fr spring ends at the bottom if it's not welded with rust. (or it could be that the upper perches are totally rusted and the springs pushed through the body..)
