XJ Ask the Question Thread
Need help. Was trying to get the low pressure line off the power steering reservoir same the nipple crumbled. Anything short of replacing the reservoir I can do? I think I vaguely remember reading you can just plug that cause it's not necessary? I just don't have enough left for the hose clamp to get a bite and I obviously can't just leave it open...

Well not you but OP
hello everyone ...should be normal my 2000 jeep cherokee doesnt give me the diagnostic obd codes whit the key switsh on and off ? the self test about the gauges woarks fine but the key trick doesnt woark ....migth this woarks only whit the 97 cherokees ? i know can i do it whit the obd conector but i just would like to know if this years jeeps does this or not ..thankx
I took out the transmission out of my jeep, put in a 2000 transmission back on, and after tightening the bell housing to engine, I tried to rotate the crank so I can bolt on the torque convertor to the flex plate. It wouldn't rotate at all. If I loosen up bell housing bolts, I'm able to rotate it. But not when it's tightened up.
Should I have used the old torque convertor on the new transmission? Or it doesn't matter? Cause mine is a 1999 and it's a 2000 trans.

I thought it only worked with 96 and below... 99-01 for sure it doesn't work. eBay/amazon has $20 code pullers

How technical of an answer do you want? lol
OBD-I was poorly implemented and has many vendor-specific strange behaviours. It has two-digit trouble codes and isn't very in-depth for providing a diagnosis up front. In XJs OBD-I was used with the GM 2.8L V6 and on all Chrysler models from 1991-1995.
OBD-II is actually standards-compliance and was required on all new vehicles by many governments worldwide. It has vendor-specific extensions but they all behave essentially the same. It has four-digit trouble codes and gets much closer to showing you where the problem lies instead of just symptoms. In XJs OBD-II was piloted in 1996 and standardized in 1997.

I drove my Jeep to work Monday and Tuesday with no issues. I let it sit the rest of the week and changed the oil last night. Same Mobil 1 10w-30 full synthetic i always use and a Wix 51452 filter (changed from the 51515). I drove to the offroad park and let the Jeep run for a while just idling so it would stay warm and i was burning oil like crazy. What could have changed? I think the valve stem seals are gone, but i dont understand what changed so drastically.

I'll check them tomorrow. Whats the compression test going to tell me if they are? I dont understand what could be happening with it now. If all the CCV stuff is new why is it still blowing back?
