Wow... with the rockers like that I'm concerned about the frame rails being almost rotted out. At least the doors look alright.
What are your plans for this Jeep?

Welcome, Simon. There are a lot people on here all pretty into jeeps. It's a great place for all kinds of information.
When a vehicle sits it can lead to a lot of issues. It sounds like XJ was stored in a warm, dry environment, but the rocker panel rust is pretty bad, so, like stated, make sure the frame rails are ok. Other issues might be in the breaks. Make sure to check the break lines as well as the breaks themselves. Anything rubber on XJ, things like control arm bushings and TRE's could have dry rotted.
Probably want to consider a full tune up- draining all fluids is usually common. Also, replacing some ignition parts like battery, plugs or wires may be needed.
Good luck.

Not quite understanding you....engine changed?
Assuming it is running now....
I'll start with making sure the Jeep road worthy before spending any $ on mods.
Do all the regular maintenance, drive it for a while. As long as the engine is strong........the rest is easy, tons of info on the site.

How are the floors? if the floors are pretty rotted along with those rocker concerns your in for a big project if you plan to fix it. Are the rockers rotted real bad where the b pillar attaches. i have seen some here in il where the b pillar is no longer attached to the rocker.
If only the rockers are nasty i say cut them out and go the square tubing route.
As for the rest of the jeep, i would flat out replace the crank sensor, make sure the reverse lights work, if they done i would plan on cleaning and rebuilding the neutral saftety switch(although i have seen some on ebay for $50. Check the tie rod ends and ball joins over. the easiest way to do this is have a friend wiggle the wheel back and forth and check all the joints for play. For the ball joints i like to lift up the front end via the lower control arm mount and then use a pry bar under the tire and push up on it to see if there is ball joint play. I would also plan on doing plugs, wires, cap, and rotor along with changing all the fluids.
Then look it over and see if you see any other concerns and get it out on the road some and see how it drives. The tires and brakes may be pretty shot from sitting.
Good luck with it!
