Default WTF is this?!?!?!

Hi all. Just bought a new engine from S&J Engines for the Cherokee and right out of the box, this is what I saw. Now I'm no mechanic but my instincts say that this is BS and a major quality control issue. These are photos of the #1 cylinder where the water pump would go. The cylinder sleeve is busting through the casting and the casting is cracking up the side. Am I overreacting or is this something to worry about?

X2! I'd raise a stink for receiving that as a new or rebuilt engine. And they should pay for shipping if required.

I would be on the phone ripping them a new one, and that POS would be returned and refunded!!!! That is a HUGE issue. I would have freaked if I saw that. Good luck man, send it back......

If they give you a hard time, rent a helicopter & return it to them yourself. (from 4000')

The cost would be worth it.

Yeah, wow, that engine block isn't any good at all. How the heck did they not notice this before shipping?

I wouldn't even take an exchange with them(S&J)... Who knows what kind of crap you will get sent back again. No way no how.

X2.
If they missed something as visable as that, who knows what hides where you can't see.

It just shows that they have no qualilty control. I would really like to know the cost of that motor. Long block or short.

And they are members of the BBB.... I would file a complaint if they are at all jerks about it.

I have heard good things about ATK engines and they are the same cost.

Can even get them with no shipping if you have a local Napa Auto parts
