Wreck, Jammed Rear Passenger Door
Hi guys,
My XJ was hit from behind and the quarter panel is crunched so that one of my rear passenger doors is jammed. I took off the inner panel and tried the mechanism, but nothing's working, and I can see that the door latch pin is sunken almost all the way into the door, so that the metal in the door itself is holding the pin. I've even tried crowbar-ing it a bit, but the sucker's stuck really well. Is there an easier way to get that door off to fix this, or should I just keep on crowbar-ing and get ready to fix a few more things? Thank you.

The body is sprung and the jamb is pushing against the door. You could try and removing the front hinges and seeing if it releases some stress on the door. To get the door useable is to pull the frame out so the pressure on the jamb is relieved. Just prying on it only makes more of a mess to fix and a useable door unusable.

Hey there latenight. I got in a real jamb one time (ha,ha). Thing would not open. I'm sort of big and it was miserable having to climb over the console. Nothing would work. There is a slot in the end of the door to reach in to free the latch. No help. A worn POS piece of plastic inside the latch kept it locked. Using the other side for reference I plunge cut the pin with a sawz-all. Left a slit in the door.

Hey guys, thank you for the help! I eventually got it open with a bunch of PB Blast but when I did, I found out that the mechanism is toast. I wish I had a camera - pieces fell all over the place inside the door lol. But hey, a new lock and some body work oughta fix it. Have a nice night guys!
