Angry Won't crank

I'm a newbie here and having similar problems with '89 Cherokee. Darn thing won't crank. Have had weird progresssion. First when the blinker was activated the radio would go on and off then just off. Then the radio quit all together. The back up lights don't work and now it won't crank. Battery is fine. When the key is turned a high kind of whine (electric not mecanical?) is heard from the engine compartment and the engine temp guage pegs. I was reading about the NSS. What is the NSS? Any help is greatly appreciated.

How do you know your battery is good? Did you check with a mulitmeter? What did it say? Did you load check your battery? Now that winter is here cold crank amps becomes important?
Have you tried jumping it?

Battery reads 12.56v. Found out NSS is neutral start switch. Probably starter as when starter terminals jumped only the solenoid clicks.

Have you cleaned off your neutral control switch recently? If not, i suggest giving that a go. You can use brake fluid to clean it off squeaky clean. Make sure all the copper contacts are nice and shiny. Also, make sure that you put the Jeep in neutral before trying to take out the switch ;-) Hope this helps.

Angry 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport 6-4L won't crank or start NEED HELP!!

Just replaced the whole ignition because the key was forced by tow truck driver and it broke the ignition. After replacing it, it started about 4 times, then after turning it off that last time, it wouldn't start again. Everything ruled out so far: all the fuses I can find, starter is good, the battery is good, fuel pump's good, and the pmc is brand new as of 3 days before this happened. When I turn the key, all the dash and inside lights come on - not dimmed- and the relays click. Tried it in neutral, didn't start. I'm stumped completely if anyone can help. (if I'm posting in the wrong place, just let me know where it's supposed to go I'm a newbie here)

Right part of the forum, but nobody likes zombie threads. Please start a new one.

Also, in your new post, make sure you are clear about whether you have a no start problem (engine cranks but won't run), or a no crank problem (engine will not turn over).

That wouldn't necessarily matter if the NSS is dirty the contact failure may be intermittent. So, I would still suggest try cleaning the NSS anyway. Especially if you haven't done it in awhile.
