The reason I wanted a double check of the NSS is because mine does just that. When I put it in park while everything is hot, it works as designed. Starts fine next morning. If I just re-park the Jeep while its cold, my NSS will stay stuck out a bit, and no click, no start. It's not SO stuck that jiggling the shifter won't get it to make contact.

I also had an oil-soaked Pos. cable connection, (on the solenoid), that would make contact and start the Jeep when I whacked the solenoid. That one got me good, as these knowledgeable, experienced, posters above are correct. That's normally the case, (bad starter).

Since the price of a starter has gone from more like a hours pay, to more like a days pay I'm a little more careful.

If you test for power at the solenoid terminal and have power there with the key turned, (or jump power to it), the problem is the starter or the power to it. (cable connections/battery). It does sound like the starter, but of course a new one won't help if there is no power at that solenoid terminal.

its probably the nss switch. mine was packed in a hard kinda of grease. and on short runs. like down the block. it would never restart without holding the key in the start position and moving the shifter. i removed the nss switch pulled it apart and cleaned it. used a little fresh dielectric grease on it, and reinstalled.. havent had a problem since....

Well I pulled the starter and put in a new one and it fires right up. But my NSS must also be greased up because my reverse lights don't work

Thanks loads for getting back! I think that's really what makes this forum work. Walking away leaves everything a question mark.

Hey No Prob. Look for my new thread about a mystery coolant leak! If it's not one thing it's the other!
