ok so the battery in my jeep went out when i was four wheeling so the guy i was with started his jeep up and pulled the battery than we started mine and pulled it and put the old one back in it, i know your not supposed to do that but i had to to get off the trail. Well when i got back the first thing i did was get a new battery and it worked for a day and now its not working i tried jumping it and got it to start and i let it idle for awhile after it started to build a charge. than drove it around the bock and it did fine. When i turned it off just to make sure i tried starting it again and nothing not even a little clunk from the solenoid. This happen to anyone before?

mmm- how did it die on you the first time? did you stall out? sounds like its not your battery- thats just being drained by the real discrepancy... maybe head to an automotive store to check your alternator?

yea be careful with hookin up that battery, from what youve said it seems your jeep is gonna suck it dry. get that alternator checked out! pull it off and get it tested, if its bad save yourself the money for a new one and just replace the diodes inside, its like 7 bucks (that is if your wire brush is still in good shape)

Two guesses to look into: 1) (as already said) your alternator might be whacked. Pull it and have it checked, but before you do that, 2) double check your power wires and ground wires to/on the alt. and starter. Make sure they're clean and that the grounds are grounded solidly. Check to make sure something else isn't drawing on the battery when the engine's off ...
I was working on something similar this week... truck wouldn't start, solenoid wouldn't make a peep, acted like the battery was dead. Replaced the battery, started a couple times, then died and wouldn't start.
Turned out to be a bad ground on the starter... last thing I checked too, of course. Might save yourself some pain to start with the easy stuff
