Question wont start.

I replaced my alternator. then my jeep wouldnt start because my oring going to my fuel rail was busted. i didnt realize that so i started messing with the spark plug wires. I then fixed the o ring. it started. but then i had started messing with the spark plugs wires. i set it up to where there was a big BOOM! i kept switching them up. i hve spark and fuel. it was just running. but now i cant even get a back fire from switching them around. any one have even a clue?!?! the diagrams i find are ridiculous and i cant find the number one spark plug location on the cap.

And forgive my ignorance, but is it a V6 or I6?

Well hopefully it's an I6 & your problem is solved.

4.0 is an I6. 86 was the last year for the GM 2.8L V6, the only V6 in XJs.

Here's something that happened to me. I had the order slightly incorrect, it ran rough, I shut it down, it didn't even turn over after that, only heard the click of the starter engaging. We touched a voltmeter to the battery to test it & it started right up after that.
