Wont move
Need help or ideas anyway. 92 4.0 auto. Runs good but when I shift it into gear nothing happens at all. No drop in rpm...nothing turning...nothing grinding...linkage to tranny and transfer case are both operational. I am new to the cherokee and just looking for advice for where to start. Thanks in advance.

Check trans fluid!!! If good then you may have a bad torque converter. Thats not common. If all else fails you have a bad transmission. Hope this helps

Couple of questions, does it "click" into each gear position? Do your reverse lights come on when in reverse? If both of these seem to be okay then you're probably going to need to drop the tranny. Any symptoms that led up to this?

One thing to check. Is the transfer case in gear? I worked at a shop several years ago when we were supposed to pull a trans to get checked because it didn't move. As we were pushing it in, the guy steering noticed something. We stopped pushing, he pulled a lever, started the truck and took off.
Or check the trans fluid.

Reminds me of an expensive customer whoops.
A customer had a truck that he said needed a engine because it was locked up. No problem. Swapped the engine and went to start it and it wouldn't move. I pulled the belt off and it fired right up. The alternator was locked up. The customer got a new engine and a new alternator.

Tranny level good...no clicking when switching gears..will check on reverse lights but probably don't work anyhow. No story I can give u on leading up to this...bought it as is. Not sounding good but what I expected. On a different note will a 95 trans bolt up to my 92. What do I need to look for when buying a trans that is out of the.vehicle ...transfer case is not attached to it. Thanks for the replies
