it will start, idle for 3 seconds, then stall ...

unless i stand there and quickly wiggle this sensor ...



if i need a new one, where can it be bought?

it looks like the TPS throttle position sensor

but could be the IAC idle air control

clean the conections first and see if that works

 

x2 on TPS and clean the connection. While you're at it goop some dielectric grease in the connector too.

 

The picture is too Damn close up for me to tell what anything is.

 

also check that the pins in that weather pack connector arnt opened up to much and not making good contact.

 

i apologize if my original post was unclear. this car is a 2.5 and has throttle body injection. the sensor pictured connects to the throttle body via 2 torx screws and has a little arm on the opposite side of the connector. i BELIEVE it could be the throttle position sensor.

By wiggle i also meant the little arm that gets moved when the throttle moves. NOT THE CONNECTOR. if i unplug the connection it wont barely start at all, so the connection is good.

if i wiggle the little arm on it quickly its almost a steady idle, pressing and holding it down doesnt change anything, and leaving it to work with the throttle just leads to an eventual stall.

It is the TPS then. Not sure what the actual value is but you should be able to find it in a service manual. Manual will also tell you how to check it using an ohmmeter assuming its adjustable. If its not adjustable then replace it. I would try to check it first regardless though.

 

it is indeed adjustable. ive tried turning it(without taking a reading) all the way from one way to the other. no change.

 

get a new one any parts store will have it or be able to get one

 

Pull it off. Sometimes they stick and you can clean them from the backside.

 

Got and installed a new one. Barely better. Next up is fpr. Then a blow torch to set this thing on fire LOL

 

Did you adjust the new one? You can't just put it in there and it automatically works. It needs to be adjusted correctly. This site shows you the adjustment procedure. http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl232i.htm
I did it, and after my jeep would idle too low, and now It runs like seabiscuit.
Its not a hard job, but can be frustrating getting the damn voltmeter needles into the wires.

 

I havnt adjusted it via voltmeter. I have had it in numerous positions tho.

 

Adjust it properly man your car will run a lot smoother
